Creamy Greek Yogurt Fruit Slushies

Frozen juice concentrates

The long stretch of sweltering days has finally eased, and today the high is expected to be about 80 degrees—what a relief. The past few days topped out in the mid-90s, which felt far too hot for this time of year.

Even with cooler weather on the way, store shelves are already stocked with pumpkins and autumn decorations, which looks a bit odd when I’m still reaching for cold drinks to stay comfortable.

To keep us refreshed, I’ve been making smoothies and slushies almost every day. My girls have developed a post-school habit: they want a slushie as soon as they walk through the door. Carrying heavy backpacks in warm weather leaves them sweaty and ready for something icy.

Frozen juice concentrates and greek yogurt

These slushies start with a handful of ice, a little water, and frozen juice concentrate. I prefer using 100% juice concentrates because they deliver bright fruit flavor without extra additives.

That said, many tropical-flavored varieties contain high fructose corn syrup and artificial colors, so I avoid those when possible. When a tropical taste is essential for a recipe, I choose it sparingly.

To transform the icy base into a creamy slushie, I add a few tablespoons of nonfat Greek yogurt and blend until smooth. The result is refreshingly tart, with a texture reminiscent of frozen yogurt—my daughter Laurel’s first reaction was, “Tastes just like frozen yogurt!”

If you don’t have frozen concentrate on hand, a mixture of fresh lemon or lime juice and a little honey makes a perfect substitute. The citrus brightens the yogurt while the honey balances the acidity.

These slushies come together quickly and are easy to customize. Use apple-cranberry or cranberry-raspberry for a tart, autumnal taste, or purple grape for a sweeter option. You can also use fresh or frozen fruit in place of concentrate if you prefer a more natural flavor.

My kids ask for slushies year-round, not just on hot days. Whether they’re overheated from a long walk home or just want a chilled treat after school, this simple recipe is an easy go-to. It’s quick, nutritious, and satisfying.

Which flavor would you try first? Today I’m picking grape—its flavor pairs wonderfully with the tang of Greek yogurt and makes a smooth, slushy drink that both kids and adults enjoy.
