Our favorite after-school snack

I can’t believe back-to-school is right around the corner. I love summer, but I’m also getting prepared with quick snack options for those inevitable “I’m hungry!” moments after school.
My daughter Jemma and I made these celery snacks together. She declared the peanut butter butterflies one of the best recipes I’ve ever made — which I’ll happily take, even if it’s simpler than some of the other things I make. The important part is she’s eating wholesome snacks.
We made three different versions:
- Peanut Butter Butterflies
- Yogurt and Berries
- Mediterranean Inspired

For this post I’m partnering with Dandy to use their 2-inch Celery Dippers™ as the base. I like them because they’re pre-washed and ready to eat, which makes snack prep fast and stress-free.
They’re also a convenient way to add hydration and fiber to my daughter’s snacks without asking her to drink more water. A small, healthy swap can go a long way.

Ingredients needed
The full recipe card below lists exact amounts, but here’s a quick overview:
- Dandy Celery Dippers (pre-washed celery sticks)
- Peanut butter + apple slices + pretzel sticks
- Yogurt + berries + optional honey
- Hummus + kalamata olives + diced tomato + crumbled feta (optional balsamic glaze)

How to make them
These are very flexible — adjust amounts to taste and based on the size of your celery. It’s an easy, kid-friendly “measure with your heart” snack.
Peanut Butter Butterflies
Spread peanut butter along a celery stick. Place two thin apple slices in the center at an angle to form wings. Snap a pretzel stick in half and place the halves at the top as antennae. Serve immediately.
Yogurt and Berries
Spoon yogurt onto the celery and line berries along the top. Drizzle a little honey if you’d like added sweetness. Serve right away.
Mediterranean Inspired
Spread hummus on the celery and top evenly with thinly sliced kalamata olives, diced tomato, and crumbled feta. For extra flavor, finish with a light drizzle of balsamic glaze. Serve fresh.

Ants on a Log – 3 different ways!
A quick, healthy after-school snack that’s fun for kids to assemble and eat.

Ingredients
- 6 Dandy® celery sticks
For the Peanut Butter Butterflies
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- ¼ of a small apple, thinly sliced
- 6 pretzel sticks, snapped in half
For the Yogurt & Berries
- ¼ cup yogurt of choice
- ⅓ cup blueberries (or mixed berries)
- Optional: honey, to drizzle
For the Mediterranean Version
- ¼ cup hummus
- 2 tbsp kalamata olives, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp crumbled feta
- 1 tbsp finely diced tomato
- Optional: balsamic glaze to finish
Instructions
- Spread peanut butter, yogurt, or hummus on each celery stick.
- Peanut Butter Butterflies: Add two apple slices as wings and place a halved pretzel at the top for antennae.
- Yogurt & Berries: Top with yogurt, line with berries, and drizzle honey if desired.
- Mediterranean: Spread hummus and top with olives, tomato, and feta. Finish with a light balsamic drizzle if you like.
- Serve immediately and enjoy.
